Five days ago I ordered this book, the first I'd ever read by Kelly Bowen. Since then I've read the other two in the series, and ordered the first in her Lords of Worth series. (Note: Stand-alone. Had no problem reading out sequence. You may want to set aside some time once you start, unless you can function on very little sleep.I'm skipping the book summary because I truly feel readers will enjoy discovering all about the story firsthand. I know that I did.Her characters are charming, relatable and just wicked enough to put a smirk on your face.Dialogue is fun and entertaining. The love scenes are deliciously sensual. The romance is nicely placed with plenty of palpable tension. But may not suit those who prefer clean romances. My only wish was for a bit of an epilogue. I applaud the author for abstaining from unnecessarily protracted ending. However the ending felt too truncated.

I greatly enjoyed this book. I love the way Kelly Bowen is able to blend comedy, romance, and suspense together so fluidly into each of her novels. Each novel builds and intertwines with the next, while also being uniquely individual so that each book does not depend upon the previous book to set up the characters (and no repeating introductions to recurring characters, such as the Dresden series is so inclined to do). Reminds me a lot of my favorite Sci-fi/Fantasy fiction series (Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality). The only reasons why this book did not get a solid 5/5 is that it felt far too short, the ending far too rushed, and the dramatic build-up to who/why felt cliche and unimaginative (no "OMG, it was him the whole time!" reaction for me, simply a "huh. Odd." reaction). The villain having receipts of his crimes seemed pretty insipid and unbelievable. It left me feeling like the book was quickly written to meet a deadline, rather than a well done novel. On the upside, there wasn't a long, drawn-out "he/she doesn't want/love me!" page-filler like many other romance authors do (which make me pull my hair out in frustration). I loved the characters and how they are written/develop (love stories where a man finds a strong woman as his mental match are my favorite). Even with the issues I had with the book, I would still highly recommend reading ANY of Bowen's books as they are fantastically written and quite an entertaining read.I truly hope to see a book about King falling in love next! Keep up the great work, Ms. Bowen! You have a great talent!

I love regency romances! I've read some of this author's earlier books and liked them, even loved a couple. This book was no exception. It had an intriguing premise - young lady counts cards at a gambling den to make money to support her family. The heroine, Lady Angelique Archer, was very compelling - beautiful, wicked smart, and loyal. The hero, Alexander Lavoie, was just as compelling - handsome, sexy, and charming. They had great chemistry. The storyline was entertaining and unpredictable. I like the author's writing style - plenty of action and dialogue. Overall, a very good book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

A lovely, sexy Regency adventure. Made me smile. Brooding hero and smart socially awkward heroine. Best most romantic first kiss. Great pacing. I really loved this heroine - I actually wanted more of her just doing stuff because she was that interesting. This is the second book in a series... I skipped the first book. It was fine...i figured everything out.

A good love story, nicely plotted, although where was the duke in the title? I rather like books' titles to have some relevance to the story. Likable characters, strong dialogue, and good pacing. I liked it.
